PSE Uses Self-Configuration Tool for Leak Management

PSE Uses Self-Configuration Tool for Leak Management

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) deployed Locusview’s Digital Construction Management (DCM) technology in 2024 to 120 internal and contract construction crews.  In addition to regulatory compliance, PSE is now able to view as-built data in GIS within 24 hours, automatically update SAP with task codes upon work completion, and generate design change reports.

PSE partnered with Locusview’s professional services team to configure the initial solution that was deployed for DCM including GIS and SAP integrations. The initial implementation included an application for emergency and routine leak repairs but recently they wanted to expand the use of Locusview to include leak investigations to provide an integrated solution.

Capturing leak investigation data in Locusview provides PSE with the following benefits:

  • Minimizes data entry for field crews by enabling the automated flow of data from the leak investigation phase to the leak repair phase
  • Reduces cycle-time because follow-up work orders are automatically created based on leak investigation results
  • Increases accountability and eliminates “lost forms”

PSE developed a strong level of trust in the Locusview product and felt confident in their ability to use the self-configuration tool to design and build a solution for a new leak management use case. Sunil Patel, Senior Application Configuration Analyst (SAP Work Management), led the development of the leak management application including creating new forms, asset types, alerts, and email notifications.

"Leveraging the self-configuration tool in Locusview gave us the ability to shape functionality that aligns with both operational goals and back office expectations. We’ve been able to automate key workflows, reduce user errors that typically lead to rework, and ensure alignment with our broader digital strategy. Self-configuration has been a crucial piece of a larger puzzle – helping everything work together more seamlessly including with SAP Work Management and GIS systems. I’m truly motivated and excited by the possibilities that this functionality opens up for us including the ability to extend the application’s capability to PSE’s current & future needs. Locusview’s support has been outstanding every step of the way."

With the new application, leak crews capture leak location and investigation data, and then create leak inspection forms on a mobile phone. Repairs are downloaded on a custom Leak Repair PDF report which shows a map of the leaks and all field captured data. Field crews then perform repairs and capture data with the original DCM workflow using high accuracy GPS.

"We are really excited about the solution we have built using Locusview.  The integration to the SAP work stream for work order management and the multiple layers of checks and approvals that have been built into the process flow using Locusview provide us with high levels of confidence that the leaks are reported, completed, and represented accurately ensuring compliance with our Leak Program."

Most initial deployments of Locusview focus on capital construction and repairs, but expansion upstream into surveys and inspections to provide an integrated workflow within a single application is a logical expansion.
